Day 23-24 / Siem Reap, Cambodia

Day 23

We are going to Siem Reap, Cambodia today.

We had a very early flight, so woke up around 5am. We have arrived at approx. 2 hours prior to departure to the airport in Ho Chi Minh, but it took us about an hour and a half to get to our gate, immigration there is extremely slow.

Our tiny, very old and tired looking plane

Our hotel has kindly arranged a tuk tuk, waiting for us at the airport in Siem Reap, making it easy for us. The hotel is pretty great, can’t complain!

We spent the evening exploring the town, the markets, eating some local dishes and having a drink.

The markets are massive here, you can buy absolutely anything! We bought a bag here, Evie said its very popular in the UK, they wanted to sell it for 35 dollars, ended up paying 10, but I’m sure we still overpaid!

Fish Amok, tasty!

Day 24

We woke up today missing the beach, so naturally, we went to a beach club here, where there is no sea!

It was an awesome place though, called Cambo Beach Club, 5 dollars for entry and you can spend 3 dollars of it in the bar.

Here, we started chatting with an older Dutch gentleman, he has been teaching English in South East Asia for many years now and lived 10 years in Cambodia. He told us some ugly truths about the country, the issue of kids not receiving education, Chinese and Korean companies and individuals buying villages and exploiting them for tourism, parents selling their kids for 100 dollars on the street… We definitely have got an eye opener from him.

We managed to spend the whole day there, in the evening we went out for a stroll again and some food, but doing nothing got us really tired, haha.
